State Finals Preview - Girls Individual TOC

I hope at this point that everyone realizes that speculating on the individual tournament is pure folly - it's very much an "any given day" situation with so much talent in the room.  That said, the girls I'm listing are the most likely to have that big day at Bowlero, in my opinion.  The girls are a little more predictable than the boys, but we sure had some surprises at sectionals, so what do I know?

So, here's my list of the ten most likely contenders for the Girls TOC title.  This is based on season average, performance in sectionals, and tournament track record over the course of the season.  It ain't scientific, but I think it's objective, and I hope nobody takes it too seriously and gets offended; it's just my moderately educated opinion.

Anyway, in alphabetical order, the top ten contenders:

Marissa Cosentini, So., Wayne Valley
3rd place at FDU Team event and at North Sectionals.  In between, led the Big North with a 208 average.

Julianna Forbes, Sr., Brick Township
Won two games in the 2017 stepladder, and in 2018 placed second at Shore Singles and 1st at the Shore Team tournament as part of her 199 tournament average.

Morgan Gitlitz, So., Colts Neck
Huge 203 tournament average includes championships at Monmouth County and Central Sectional, all in the last week.

Lanasia Neal, Sr., South Plainfield
2016 champ has been brilliant, winning Bayshore and GMC, 2nd at Central, and averaging over 208 in conference play.

Kamerin Peters, So., Toms River North
Runnerup last year after breaking qualifying record; just as good now, averaging 211 in tournaments while winning Brick and Shore Individual, placing second at Snowball and South Sectional

Paige Peters, Fr., Toms River North
Huge 207 tournament average includes win at Snowball and 2nd at North Jersey Singles after state-best 767 in qualifying.

Kiara Powell, Sr., Union
The Wheeler and Union County champ is carrying a 209 tournament average and shot 678 in the Boys sectionals.

Katie Robb, Sr., Kingsway
Made the stepladder in 2017 and averaging 208 in 2018.

Amanda Shelters, Jr., Brick Memorial
211 overall average includes 212 in tournaments, 2nd place at Brick, 3rd at Sectionals and championships at RWTI and CJWC.

Goldera Surles, Sr., Union Catholic
Huge 207 regular season average includes a 747 set last week. Finished 3rd at both Wheeler and Union County tournaments.

And ten more, just because I don't know when to quit:

Bridget Bolan, Jr., Monroe
Kelcie Mannon, So., Warren Hills
Sarah Orensky, So., Freehold Township
Caylin Ryan, Jr., Brick Township
Liz Schreier, Sr., Lacey
Victoria Stasicky, Sr., Monroe
Madison Steinbeck, Sr., East Brunswick
Natalie Swindell, Sr., Toms River South
Victoria Vucak, Sr., Paramus Catholic
Katie Winch, Sr., Warren Hills

and then we have the emergency override.  Three girls for whom I have either zero or very litte data threw big numbers at sectionals.  I can't really put them on the above lists, but I certainly can't ignore how well they did on Saturday.

Brittany Lucci, Jr., Hamilton West
687 to place 3rd at Central Sectional
Totiana Miranda, Cumberland
676 to win the South Sectional
Shaelyn Shadwell, Sr., Sussex Tech
671 to place 2nd at North Sectional

  1. Could be wrong but believe Paige and Amanda missed States. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UFi5bZtpKWIVpoDQkxMo5FQLXTapb5o5g9OydqW0d0c/edit#gid=0

  2. You are mistaken. That's the Shore Conference tournament. The state field is determined at sectionals and Paige and Amanda were outstanding, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively.
