County Tournaments & Honor Scores

County tournament results are coming in, bit by bit, and we're even getting some press for them, which is great.

The Union County singles tournaments were held, and got a little writeup on nj.com right here.  Evan Weinberg of Dayton and Kiara Powell, very impressive bowlers both, won the individual titles.  I don't have a full breakdown, just the six game totals in the article, so I can't add to the honor scores list, but Luis Torres of Roselle had a very nice unofficial 741 in his first three stepladder matches.

The Morris County tournament took place on Thursday, and I really hope that somebody can come through with full results on this one.  The Daily Record wrote it up here.  Morris Knolls took the title in a Baker final over Morris Hills.  Montville's Adam Gelvan took the individual title with a 708 set against a deep field, while Emma Thies of Jefferson and West Morris senior Paige Piombino tied for the girls' title at 586.

Finally, Sussex Tech took their third straight Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex championship on Wednesday, besting a game Warren Hills squad (2907) with an excellent 3092 set. Francis Vitelli of North Hunterdon was the boys individual champ with a 712 series, and Rhianna Smith won her 3rd individual tournament title of the year with a 704.  The Warren Hills girls, while not eligible to win the event, bowled as a team and put up a state-record 1153 in game 2 (according to USHBF).  The Herald gave the event some good coverage here.

Also, though I've shied away from writing about regular season results, I have to give a shout to the #1 East Brunswick Bears, who carded a massive 3519 set yesterday, which included the season's second 800; Sam Bortnick with a 244-278-279=801.

I've really got to stop putting this off for a couple of days; the list gets ridiculous.
