Tournaments and Honor Scores

Four tournaments over the last few days, and in an encouraging development, three of them got actual media coverage.  Both Dybuk's blog and northjersey.com have excellent writeups of the Passaic County tournament (won by West Milford boys, Wayne Valley girls, Hunter Perry of Hawthorne and Bryonna Richburg of Mary Help) and the Bergen girls tournament, won by Holy Angels in a thrilling Baker final, and Gabrielle Capalad of Leonia.

mycentraljersey gave good ink to an exciting GMC Individual tournament, with a dramatic one-pin final win by Lanasia Neal of South Plainfield over Victoria Stasicky of Monroe, as well as a final-match 300 game by 2017-18's top gun, Daniel Lenk of East Brunswick over James Stoveken of Woodbridge. Lenk completed an unofficial 790 set in the stepladder.  (All 600 & 700 sets will be listed with other honor scores).

The Woodbridge Classic also took place on Saturday.  I only have team results, but it looks like there were some stories to tell.  St. Joseph's of Metuchen got out to a big lead, shooting 2160 for the two traditional games, but Edison was lights out in the Baker rounds, carding 246-233-248 in the first three games and taking the title with a 3190 total.  St. Joe's finished 2nd, followed by Woodbridge, Brick Township and Union.

The girls event was incredibly competitive, with South Brunswick leading after the traditional games on the strength of a 2-game 1691.  Brick Township, Colonia, Woodbridge, Carteret and South Plainfield were all within 100 pins headed into Baker action.  Strangely enough, the standings remained exactly the same after the five Baker games, and South Brunswick took the championship by 31 pins over Brick, in a bit of a surprise.

High games were bowled by Collin McBride of Colonia (278) and Ashley Espy of Carteret (225).

Rankings will be late in the week, as (believe it or not) sectionals start NEXT WEEK and I'm planning on starting sectional previews next Monday.  Hoping to get in some top average stuff this week as well.

  2. Yeah, for some reason the girls' 600s from the Bergen tournament didn't fill in on the honor scores list. It has been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.
