Very big thanks to Greg Tartaglia for getting me full results to this one.
Advancing teams and individuals indicated with bold.
GROUP I
#13 Hudson Catholic was a huge favorite, and they bowled like it, with easily the high game in each of the three. Jivan Persaud took the sectional individual title with an excellent 730 set, Ashook Persaud (606) and Geoffrey Origenes (607) each put up a nice set, the Hawks ran up a great 3031 total, and are genuine threats to win the Group I state title on Monday.
Pompton Lakes, the defending champs, built up a small lead early on Wallkill Valley and maintained it all the way through to take the other advancer spot with a 2546 set, highlighted by Michael Milligan's TOC-worthy 643, while Wallkill finished 3rd at 2426, with Jon Hall leading the way at 617, followed by Hunter Horn's 601.
GROUP II
#11 Sussex Tech has grown, again, into a dominant force, and they tore this tournament to shreds, shooting 1107-1030-1157=3294 to earn their chance at a third straight state Group II title. Matt Grey carded a 612 set, and Pat Danielson (720, 2nd place), Matt Danielson (686) and Joey Steele (683) all earned individual TOC berths as well. These Mustangs are one hell of a team.
Harrison and Lincoln had a nice back-and-forth battle for the second spot, with the Blue Tide prevailing with a solid 893 in the final game for a 2523 set, led by Kenyi Vivanco and his qualifying set of 640, which nearly 200 pins over his 148 average. Amazing. Lincoln, led by Brant Rodriguez (609) finished fourth, and Manchester Regional bested their average by 150 pins to take fourth.
Hawthorne finished in fifth place, but will send Hunter Perry (670) to the state individual finals, and Joe Gramignano (672) earned a TOC slot for sixth-place High Point,.
GROUP III
This has simply become one of the best rivalries in all of New Jersey bowling. #12 Wayne Hills has the better numbers, but West Milford can get it done in tournaments, and the Highlanders did it again, taking the sectional title with a huge 3033 set. R.J. Utter was the star, taking third place in the section with a 694 series and advancing to the individual finals, Michael Nicholas made some noise with a 279-606, and Andrew Finke was excellent as usual, shooting 634.
Lakeland kept it close through two games, sitting just 26 pins back, but the Patriots left no doubt they would be headed to North Brunswick with a closing-game 1043. Dylan Heinold (640) led the way for Wayne Hills, and will be headed to Bowlero one extra time next week.
Lakeland finished well, too, and put up a nice 2792 set for third, and placing an individual on the advancer list: Ray Schmitt, who posted a 640 set. Sparta, Wayne Valley and Snyder were tightly bunched at 3-4-5, with Snyder's Brandon Crawford (660) earning a trip to states and teammate Terek Alston shooting 627, while Sparta's Brian Trotter shot 607.
GROUP IV
St. Peter's Prep and Clifton jumped out ahead of the field early, and then just... stayed there, with Prep taking the sectional title with a 2962 set and Clifton advancing to the TOC with a 2853. The champion Marauders, who finished second in 2017, put up the group's top game of 1022 in the second and were helped by Zack Oswald's 634 series and Jared Ammugauan's 610, while the Mustangs had a nice closing game of 1006, got a solid outing from Joe Paolillo (612) and placed two individuals in the state finals: Johann Gamo (688) and Sean Cruz (660).
North Bergen, led by Chris Lopez's 634, was comfortably in fourth with a 2638 set, followed by Hopatcong and Passaic, who got a 608 set from Michael Polanco. Eighth-place Union City got a nice 600 from Mike Yanqui.
