Advancing teams and individuals are in bold
GROUP I
Bishop Eustace was a strong favorite here - they took an 80-pin lead in game one and held on for a very consistent 2830 set and the sectional title. Matt Turnipseed shot a big 669 to lead the Crusaders and claim an individual TOC spot, and Zachary Young chipped in a nice 643 set.
Maple Shade stayed very close, as Evan Deibert (650) and TOC qualifier Dan Kenny (704) put up big numbers looking for that second TOC slot, but Collingswood maintained their narrow lead through two games and put it away late; it was a team effort for the Panthers, as Alijah Fontanez (603) was the only bowler to break 600.
Bordentown was he overachiever of the group, outscoring their average by 200 pins or so to take fourth place, while Overbrook, Donovan Catholic, defending champ Cinnaminson (led by Ronnie Runquist's 612 series) and Lindenwold were all within 18 pins from fifth to eighth.
Dylan Weicberger shot 626 for 10th place New Egypt, and Phil Gannon carded 613 for Salem.
GROUP II
Group II, in comparison, was a free-for-all. Manchester shot out to an early lead with a 1041 in game one, fueled by Kenny Burdge's 230 game (he would shoot 619 on the day), but they had plenty of company: six teams were within 90 pins, including all the favorites. Jackson Liberty shot a lights-out 1064 in game two, pulling into a tie with Manchester at 2054, with #20 Seneca just 78 pins back and West Deptford still in striking distance.
Lots of big scores in game three: Delran carded 999 to move up to 6th, helped immensely by Tom Tartaglia's 268 game (632 set). West Deptford completed a very consistent day with a 990 game (2915 set), which included strong numbers from Billy Barger (639) and Brandon Parker (665) who claimed an individual slot. Lacey put it together with a final game 1050, but came up a bit short for fourth, despite good sets from Brian Huebler (602) and TOC qualifier Nick Striffler (671). Manchester faded a bit to finish third. But Seneca put up a 1026 game (3002) to make it to North Brunswick, and Jackson Liberty finished with a season-high 3106 series to claim the Group II title.
The champion Lions got good scores from Gerard Chidichimo (613) and Justin Bohn (633), and got an absolutely amazing effort from sophomore Preston Williams, who posted a 237-237-258=773 to take top individual honors. The Golden Eagles' attack was very balanced, with strong sets from Zachary Malcolm (608), Mitch Tippin (611) and Jake Walters (644).
Medford Tech was impressive, besting their average by over 300 pins to take 7th, and Joseph Prettyman (606) and tournament bronze medalist Brent Ayres (750) helped Delran crush their average by over 400 pins to claim 8th place.
GROUP III
The chalk came through in Group III, as #8 Brick Township (3165) took the championship and #4 Toms River South took second, but that doesn't mean it wasn't interesting.
Burlington Township, fueled by big sets from Ethan Filbert (608) and Andrew Brown (621) bowled out of their minds in games one (1012) and three (997) to finish in fourth place at 2830, a full 300 pins clear of their average. Camden Tech, led by Ryan Hammerle's 637, finished a strong fifth, closely followed by Hammonton, Gloucester Tech and Central. As they have all season long, Josh Lipko (632) and Patrick Matoon (626) led the way for Cherry Hill West as they closed a wonderful season with a 2903 set and a third place finish
But at the end of the day, the favorites were just too strong. The Dragons won the title with a 1095-1077-993=3165 set, the highest in the building. Andrew Masi (758) posted the second highest series of the event, Chris Shymanski (693) earned a slot in the TOC, and Nick Gross finished at 643. The Indians didn't quite defend their title, but their 3023 series was strong and they'll be a major threat at the TOC. Nick Brescia posted a nice 642 set and Kyle Oliveri (659) will represent TRS at Bowlero next Wednesday.
Pennsauken managed an 11th place finish with only four bowlers - Josh Fleming shot 602, and Connor Bulicki posted a TOC-worthy 696 set.
GROUP IV
Incredibly competitive yet again; you can always count on South Group IV. Seven teams broke 2940. Second place wound up at 3052, which means we had six teams for one spot, all within 110 pins.
Toms River North broke fast with a 1036, 3rd place after game one. They finished with a more-than-respectable 2942 set, but that wasn't going to be enough in this field. Mariner Josh Burns did claim a spot at Bowlero for himself, though, shooting 675. Southern had the top second game at 1046 and would up taking fourth place at 2962, with Jeff Wilkinson (669) earning an individual advancer spot in the process.
Jackson Memorial, paced by Brad Aumann's 619 and Jaden Persichilli's 631, put up back-to-back games over 1020 to move into second place, but faded a bit in game three and settled at 2950. Washington Township, led by Pat McGuire (627) had their best day all season with a consistent 2955 to take fifth place.
Egg Harbor Township continued their late-season hot streak by finishing with a tournament-best 1099 game and a 3011 series that was just 41 pins behind the leaders. Stephen Masi continued his solid season with a 617 set, and Ethan Kenney seemingly came out of nowhere to post an awesome 289-736 and take a TOC slot.
Lenape claimed a spot at the TOC by having their best day of the season, both starting strong (1065) and finishing strong (1035) to post 3052 for second place. All five Indians were at 585+, headed by Amar Patel's 639 and Devan Patel's 643.
And, finally, Brick Memorial got their redemption after last year's disappointment, taking the sectional title with a well-earned 3093 series. The Mustangs started out hot with a 1096 game and never looked back. Michael Guzman shot 601, and two Brick Memorial bowlers advanced to the individual TOC: John Boughton (656) and Alec Hehir (695).
Further down the standings, Kyle Cunningham (653) claimed the final TOC slot for Cherokee, and Eastern shot a strong 2751 set, led by Joseph Leonard's 616. Kingsway overachieved a bit, using Griffin Rego's 607 to card a 2728 set. Defending champ Shawnee came through with a pair of 600s, from Tyler Gates (630) and Kevin Strittmatter (604).
INDIVIDUALS
Two independent bowlers cracked the top 18 and punched their tickets to Bowlero: Tyler Czerwinski (692) of Cedar Creek, and Eddie Ross III (653) of Absegami.
